Inner Development Goals

Sustainable Development Goals & Inner Development Goals

SDGs address external systems while IDGs focus on inner capacities.

Sustainable Development Goals
A global agenda to address pressing social, economic, and environmental challenges.

Inner Development Goals
Cognitive, emotional, and relational capacities that enable collective action on challenges.

Sustainable Development Goals

To reach the Sustainable Development Goals many people believe that inner reflective work is needed in order to appropriately understand the issues addressed in the Sustainable Development Goals framework. Governments and societies are not making changes at scale and at speed to keep us on target for reducing global temperatures back to healthy levels. The Inner Development Goals framework provides a dynamic living dashboard of competencies humans need to develop in order to effectively problem-solve. We need to connect with our collective wisdom in order to coordinate together to reverse emerging complex large-systems challenges.

As IDG Ambassadors, we acknowledge that our actions emerge from our Way of Being and inner development is the leverage point for seeing and accessing the wisdom needed to solve our most pressing problems.

Inner Development Goals

The Inner Development Goals are “transformational skills for sustainable development” and consist of a framework of 23 skills within 5 developmental domains:

BEING, THINKING, RELATING, COLLABORATING, ACTING. The Inner Development Goals framework evolved out of the Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations in 2015.

Our work at MōD builds being-based capacities directly related to all 23 IDG skills.

The image displays a chart with five vertical sections, each representing a different aspect of personal development: Being, Thinking, Relating, Collaborating, and Acting. Each section contains a list of related skills and qualities, with different background colors and icons at the top.
